MaleLord William MacLeish Alexander, 1st Baron Grantville, was a Manticoran citizen, Peer of the Realm and Prime Minister.
Family[]
William was the younger son of Lord Murdoch Alexander, Earl of White Haven. He had an older brother, Hamish, and was the brother-in-law of Emily Alexander and Honor Harrington, as well as the paternal uncle of their children, Raoul and Katherine Alexander-Harrington. (HH11)

Biography[]
Alexander was born on Manticore in the 19th Century PD, and made a career in politics. At the turn of the 20th Century PD, he served as Lord of Exchequer for the Cromarty government.
In 1900 PD, he went to White Haven to talk with his brother about Commander Honor Harrington's actions at First Battle of Basilisk. He was concerned about the political maneuvering that was going on about the Royal Manticoran Navy. (HH1) In 1905 PD, he attended a meeting with Prime Minister. (HH3)
After the death of Prime Minister Allen Summervale and the subsequent end of the Cromarty government, Alexander became head of the Centrist Party and leader of the opposition. (HH9)
When the Second Havenite-Manticoran War began and Michael Janvier, Baron High Ridge, resigned from the office of Prime Minister, Alexander succeeded him, being himself created Baron Grantville on becoming Prime Minister. (HH10)
