The Valiant class was a class of light cruisers used by the Royal Manticoran Navy.
Design[]
With half again the missile broadside of an Apollo class cruiser, the Valiant class marked a departure in typical Manticoran light cruiser design. Fourteen percent heavier than the Illustrious class, it took its design philosophy from the Courageous class. It boasted a heavier missile broadside than any previous RMN light cruiser, and energy weapons equal to those of the Apollo class. Another notable feature was heavy chase armament, with three missile tubes and two graser mounts. This demanded a substantial redesign of the "hammerhead".
While reliable and effective, the Valiant class was shorter legged and more cramped than most of its contemporaries, despite the larger size. (Companion)
History[]
During the years 1905 to 1907 PD, the construction of the class slowed down a bit, which helped extend the service life of some Courageous-class vessels.
By the 1920s PD, a total of eighty-three Valiant-class ships had been built to completely replace the Courageous-class units as they were decommissioned, with many Valiants inheriting their names directly from the older ships.
Seven ships of this class were sold to the Protectorate of Grayson and put into service with the Grayson Space Navy as the Glory-class. (JIR1, Companion)
