Biography[]
Meares served as Admiral Honor Harrington's flag lieutenant in 1921 PD, when the Mesan Alignment picked her as a target for Operation Rat Poison, trying to get to Harrington by using Meares: a female Mesan agent disguised as an air taxi driver "accidentally" sprayed air freshener in his face when he entered her air car for a trip home.
After attending his sister's birthday party at the family home, Meares returned to HMS Imperator and, upon encountering Admiral Harrington on the ship's flag bridge, was forced by the Mesan mind-control nanites in his brain to draw Simon Mattingly's pulser and fire on him and Harrington. Mattingly and several others were killed, and Admiral Harrington had no other choice but to kill Meares by shooting him in the head with the hidden pulser built into a hand and finger in her artificial left arm.
