Acting Commodore?[]

Reading "Shadow of Freedom" I assume he was the acting Commodore of his Destroyer Squadron. Or am I wrong? - Isabeau de Navarre (talk) 15:24, September 17, 2019 (UTC)

With the destruction of HMS Roland and the death of Commodore Chatterjee, Zavala did succede him in command of the squadron, but he was never promoted to commodore, only senior grade captain. Much like how Prescott Termaine was only a senior grade captain, yet he commanded a division of Saganami-C heavy cruisers. - DarkScribe (talk) 18:19, September 17, 2019 (UTC)

The term "Commodore" was used several times by other officers of his squadron in relation to him. I am also aware that he was not promoted.
