His brother-in-law was Adam Damakos, and he was a cousin of Akahito Fitzpatrick, Duke of Gray Water. (HH10)
Biography[]
Simon Chakrabarti joined the Royal Manticoran Navy at some point in the 19th Century PD. His last active service was a as a Lieutenant Commander, in the position of executive officer of the heavy cruiser HMS Invincible, operating against pirates in the Silesian Confederacy.
With the exception of a brief assignment with the Bureau of Weapons, he spent the remainder of his career in administrative positions. (HH10)
Holding the rank of Admiral in 1915 PD, he was Sir Thomas Caparelli's replacement as First Space Lord under the High Ridge government. (HHA4.6: TSotS) He supported First Lord of the Admiralty Edward Janacek's decision to halt new construction of ships of the wall, assuming that Manticore would maintain its technological superiority over any possible rival. As Manticore's diplomatic relations with the Republic of Haven deteriorated, and a confrontation with the Andermani Empire over Silesia appeared increasingly likely, Chakrabarti came to deeply regret his earlier support for the build-down. He attempted to induce First Lord of the Admiralty Janacek to either reinforce Honor Harrington's fleet at Sidemore Station against the Andermani, withdraw from Silesia to avoid war, or revise her orders. He was refused, and Chakrabarti resigned his office in protest. (HH10)
