The Royal Navy was the armed naval force of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland/Northern Ireland on Old Earth, existing for hundreds of years from the Kingdom of England, through the act of Union and for the majority of its lifetime as the United Kingdom. The Royal Navy was, for a long time, considered to be the most powerful navy on the planet.
Many aspects of the Royal Manticoran Navy were adopted from the RN, like the rank structure and names and many customs like half-pay.
Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, whom Hamish Alexander was compared to by Honor Harrington, was a legendary officer of the Royal Navy. (HH10)
