"Recruiting Exercise" is an Honorverse-themed short story by David Weber, published as part of the Noir Fatale anthology by Baen Books in 2019.
Plot[]
Young Dolist Ninon Bourchier tries to make some money to pay for her baby brother's medication by selling her body, but gets embroiled in an assassination attempt on corrupt politicians by the infamous April Tribunal.
Background[]
There are several references to the classic film noir Casablanca: most of the story takes place in a bar, whose owner has the initials H.B. (like Humphrey Bogart), employs someone named Sam, and bemoans the fact that a woman came into his establishment, of all places.
