Raphael Semmes (27 September 1809 CE – 30 August 1877 CE) was an officer in the United States Navy, and of the Confederate States Navy after the outbreak of the American Civil War. He was captain of the famous commerce raider CSS Alabama, taking a record sixty-nine prizes.
Hamish Alexander considered Honor Harrington's tactical sense marginally superior to that of Semmes. (HH11)
