The Proselyte class was the Grayson designation for four Mars class heavy cruisers captured by Admiral Honor Harrington in the Cerberus System and taken into service with the Protector's Own.
While too antiquated to serve in a frontline role in the age of the multi-drive missile and too heavily built to be economical to be refitted, the four units of the Proselyte class served for several years in the Protector's Own. Larger and more modern than any previously captured example of Havenite hardware, the Proselytes have reportedly received special Grayson-designed inertial compensator upgrades, making them the only units of the Mars class to the necessary compensator hardware to make use of the full power capability of their impeller drives.
Grayson technicians have reported that the ships are difficult to maintain, though substantial performance gains were made. Unfortunately the captured hardware consisted early production run units and extensive computer modeling and new plant operating software was required to bring their Goshawk-Three fusion reactors to GSN acceptance specifications. Only complete replacement of the plants was seen as bringing the reactors to satisfactory reliability, however. In the meantime, the reactors are reportedly known as "the Bombs" to their crews.
