Orbital industry, characterized by the deployment and maintenance of space stations equipped for industrial production of various kinds, was used heavily by spacefaring humans in the Post Diaspora era.
Civilian and military starships were mostly manufactured in orbit of planets.
Under interstellar law and the Constitution of the Solarian League, orbital industry had vague protections.
Examples[]
- Due to their planet's harsh environment, the people of the Protectorate of Grayson were heavily dependent on orbital industry and farming. Some of their installations, including Orbital Four, Five and Six, were destroyed by the Masadan Navy. (HH2)
- In 1913 PD, the Twelfth Fleet of the People's Navy executed Operation Icarus, resulting in the First Battle of Zanzibar, the Battle of Alizon, the Second Battle of Basilisk, and several other attacks. The operation resulted in the destruction of the orbital industry in Zanzibar, Alizon, and above the planet Medusa in the Basilisk System. (HH8)
- In 1920 PD, the main objective of the Royal Manticoran Navy's Operation Cutworm was the destruction of Havenite orbital industry in inner Republican star systems.[1] (HH11)
- In 1921, the Republic of Haven Navy executed Operation Gobi, resulting in the Second Battle of Zanzibar. (HH11)
- In 1922 PD, the orbital infrastructure of the Manticore System, both military and civilian, was destroyed by the Mesan Alignment Navy's Operation Oyster Bay, in which several large space stations and shipyards were destroyed. (HH12)
- In 1922 PD, almost a billion people lived in the orbital industry of the Cachalot System when the system was attacked by Task Force 783 of the Solarian League Navy in Operation Buccaneer. (HH14)
- In 1922 PD, the Solarian League Navy targeted the orbital industry of several systems considered to be associated with the Grand Alliance in Operation Buccaneer. (HH14)
- In 1923 PD, the Grand Fleet of the Grand Alliance attacked and destroyed the entirety of the orbital industry in the Sol System in the Battle of Sol. (HH14)
