World War II Nose Art on a P-40 fighter plane
Nose art was an ancient art form for decorating air breathing military aircraft during the 20th and early 21st centuries CE.
It started during Old Earth's First World War in the early 20th Century CE as a way of distinguishing aircraft, often with bold or garish colors, and reached its golden age during the Second World War two decades later. It was revived off and on during the remainder of the century and into the next one.
Most of the art depicted entertainment characters, scantily clad men and women or patriotic and moral themes.
It was revived in the early 20th Century PD by Ensign Audrey Pyne while serving in a LAC squadron aboard HMS Minotaur. (HH9)
