Napoléon Bonaparte, also known as Emperor Napoléon I of France, was a political and military leader on Earth in the late 18th and early 19th Century CE.
Born into a noble but impoverished Corsican family, he trained as an officer in mainland France and became important under the First Republic. He led successful campaigns, and in 1799 CE staged a coup d'état, naming himself First Consul. Five years later the French Senate declared him Emperor. His empire went through a great number of wars, shaping the Napoleonic Era and the Final Age of Western Imperialism. (HH2)
The French invasion of Russia in 1812 began a turning point in Napoléon's fortunes. In 1813 CE, the Sixth Coalition defeated his forces time and again, and eventually exiled Napoléon to the island of Elba. Less than a year later, he escaped Elba and became powerful again. However, he was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815 CE. He spent the last six years of his life confined by the British on the island of Saint Helena before dying of stomach cancer, although some have suggested that he was poisoned with arsenic.
Legacy[]
Although his name was no longer known to everyone in the Post Diaspora era, Napoléon was remembered by enough military personnel to have a number of starships named after him. Kevin Usher quoted him, saying "Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence". (CS2)
Ships named after him were:
- PNS Napoleon, a cruiser of the People's Navy. (HH3)
- PNES Napoleon Bonaparte, a battlecruiser of the People's Navy in Exile. (CS2)
- SLNS Napoleon, a destroyer of the Solarian League Navy. (CS2)
