Mayhew Steading was the Grayson steading whose steadholders also held the Protectorship through most of the planet's history.
The noble house was also sometimes referred to as the Mayhew Clan, which was an influential family on Grayson since the Protectorate's founding. As long as the head of the clan was the Protector, the title of Steadholder Mayhew fell to his oldest son, who was likely the heir apparent. (HH11)
In 1903 PD, the head of the Mayhew Clan was Protector Benjamin IX. His clan still held a considerable power of prestige. He hoped that it would not lose its leadership because of his actively working for an alliance with the Star Kingdom of Manticore. (HH2)
