The Marksman class was a class of light cruisers operated by Erewhon Navy, the Solarian League Navy's Maya Sector Detachment and later the Mayan Autonomous Regional Sector Navy. (CS2)
Class Design[]
The Marksman-class was a scaled-down derivative of the Royal Manticoran Navy Star Knight-class heavy cruisers with updated electronics, energy weapons and missiles, as well as a substantially downsized crew. Due to the use of automation in their design, the Marksmans embarked crew complement was considerably smaller than that of the far smaller Morrigan-class light cruisers of the SLN.
Moreover, unlike other Solarian light cruisers, the Marksman was equipped with a flag bridge to serve as a squadron flagship and its attainable acceleration was twenty-eight percent higher than a War Harvest class destroyer.
Although officially designated as light cruisers, ships of the Marksman class were actually larger than a majority of the SLN heavy cruisers.
Construction Notes[]
The Marksman class was built by the Carlucci Industrial Group of Erewhon in the early 1920s PD, based on a special contract with Maya Sector Governor Oravil Barregos[1].
When initially deployed in 1921 PD, the first flight of the Marksman-class were equipped as fire control ships and were intended to cooperate with Masquerade-class "arsenal ships". The ships had been designed with eight broadside missile tubes, but during construction two of the missile tubes in each broadside were replaced with additional fire control links and enough planar arrays to allow simultaneous control of sixty missiles.
Class Service Record[]
The first flight of eight of the vessels fought in the Second Battle of Congo. Four were destroyed while two of the remaining four survived with varying levels of damage. (CS2)
