A typical katana
The katana was a type of Japanese sword, often called a "samurai sword". The term katana could be applied to any curved Japanese sword with a blade length greater than sixty centimeters.
The katana was characterized by its distinctive appearance: a curved, slender, single edged blade, circular or squared guard, and long grip to accommodate two hands. It had historically been strongly associated with the samurai of feudal Japan, and had become renowned for its extraordinary sharpness and cutting ability.
The settlers on Grayson created katana-style swords which were used as swords of state by a number of steadholders and the Protectorate itself. (HH5)
