The Illustrious class was a class of light cruisers built and used by the Royal Manticoran Navy.

History[]

The class was a product of the same enhanced survivablity design study as the Chanson and Star Knight classes.

It was not a successful design, as the aggressive survivablity enhancement significantly impacted the armanent. This led to the design being considered undergunned by many, which caused construction priorities to shift to more units of the older Apollo class. The existing Illustrious-class ships were mainly used as "hunters". (JIR1, Companion)
