The Hydra class was a class of LAC carriers built and used by the Royal Manticoran Navy.
While officially the Minotaur-B class, units of the class were referred to as the Hydra class after the lead unit of the new design. Slightly smaller than the Minotaur class, they carried twelve more LACs, extending the broadside length by sixty meters and reducing the chase magazine space in half. With lighter active defenses than the Medusa and Invictus class, the Hydras proved reasonably survivable in support of the wall of battle, especially when included in the defensive umbrella of the rest of the wall.
In 1920 PD, the Flight II Hydras had their launch tubes and magazines configured to use the fusion-powered Mark 23 multidrive missile rather than the older, larger Mark 41. Additionally, the beam weaponry of their chase armaments was eliminated to increase the number of launch tubes to twelve. (Companion)
Four of these vessels were assigned to the Tenth Fleet in the Talbott Quadrant in 1922 PD. Like the preceding Minotaur class ships, they were mostly named for mythological beasts. (HH12)
