The Hauptman Cartel, a Manticoran corporation owned the Hauptman family, was the largest and richest shipping business in all of Manticore. The cartel's main focus was in merchant trade, though it did bid on and work on contracts for the Royal Manticoran Navy's research and development efforts.

The cartel was founded by Heinrich Hauptman, a zero-balancer, some time after the Manticoran Plague and the last great wave of assisted immigration in the 16th Century PD. (HH6)

In the late 19th and early 20th Century PD, the chairman of the Board was Klaus Hauptman, a direct descendant of Heinrich Hauptman. Having inherited and enlarged the family fortune, he was the single richest person in the contemporary Star Kingdom of Manticore.

Manticore Mineralogy and Mining, Ltd was researching and evaluating asteroid cores for the Cartel. (HHA2.4: THWH)

In 1900 PD, the Hauptman freighter RMMS Mondragon was caught trying to smuggle Kodiak Maximus hides in the Basilisk System. The Admiralty Court decided that the cartel was not responsible for the smuggling, but was fined because they should have known what their employees were doing. Mondragon was awarded to the captain and crew of HMS Fearless as a prize. (HH1)

By 1920 PD, the Cartel led the Kingdom Five Hundred list of top corporations by a large margin. (HH10)
