The Harrington genotype was one of the Mesan Alignment's oldest Alpha lines, placed among the genetically modified population of the planet Meyerdahl.
It was considered 'lost' when Richard Harrington and his wife Marjorie Harrington[1] left Meyerdahl to make a new home with their daughter in the Star Kingdom of Manticore. In one of the great ironies of history, the Manticoran Harrington Clan produced some genetically remarkable individuals, culminating in Honor Harrington, in whom her father's Alignment heritage was combined with that of her mother, a descendant of Chou Keng-ju, the legendary Beowulfan bio-ethics campaigner and arch-enemy of Leonard Detweiler.
The Detweiler family, which itself benefited from the introduction of Harrington genes, greatly resented the loss of the genotype, and especially the fact that Honor Harrington came to grow into one of their most formidable enemies. (HH14)
