Both the highly prized silver oak[1] and its shorter, less expensive cousin mountain oak were trees native to Halkirk's forests. Once Star Enterprise Initiatives Unlimited moved in on Loomis with the help of the Office of Frontier Security, logging quotas on silver oak made it an endangered species threatened with extinction within about twenty years by 1922 PD.
