HMS Manticore (SD-01) was the first superdreadnought of the Royal Manticoran Navy, and the lead ship of the eponymous class.
Service Record[]
The vessel was originally commissioned in 1742 PD. (Companion)
In 1885 PD, Lieutenant (Senior Grade) Honor Harrington served aboard Manticore as tactical officer. While onboard, an explosion occurred in the forward power room, and Harrington risked her own life to save crewmembers trapped by the explosion. She received the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal and the Monarch's Thanks Medal for her actions. During Harrington's service, Manticore's captain, one of the best officers she believed she had served under, was forced to transfer when he became at odds with an admiral. (HH1,HH3)
In 1900 PD, Manticore was considered the pride of the RMN[1], and a model of the ship was in First Space Lord Fleet Admiral Sir James Webster's office. (HH1)
The ship was eventually decommissioned in 1905 PD, and replaced by a Gryphon-class vessel of the same name. (Companion)
