The Falcon class was a class of destroyers built and used by the Royal Manticoran Navy. (JIR1, HHA5.3: LD)
A product of the same design study that brought forth the Apollo-class light cruiser and Lightning-class frigate. It was heavy on beam weaponry, designed to close quickly and engage its enemy at a short range.
Introduced in 1851 PD, the first flight of Falcon-class units suffered from the same sub-standard construction practices which caused the structural weaknesses of the Apollo class. Most of them needed refits. They were considered to be too fragile to survive an energy engagement, but still remained in service until the general fleet drawdown of 1916 PD, after the First Havenite-Manticoran War had ended.
A total of 88 units were built. (Companion)
