The Culverin class was a class of destroyers used by the Royal Manticoran Navy.

History

Designed as a powerful, general purpose destroyer to replace both the Havoc- and the Chanson class, it made high use of the automation common in merchant ships. That project was abandoned after the first two ships built, but had already cause significant size and cost increases.

The Culverin class had significant electronic warfare assets, an impressive broadside for a destroyer, and solid defensive capabilities that meshed perfectly with latest-generation hardware. However, it also demanded a lot of maintenance, and its "peculiar" internal layout was seldom appreciated by damage control teams.

By the early 1920s PD, a total of 72 units of the class had been built. (Companion)

According to Captain Michael Oversteegen, ships of this class had the same basic weapons fit as ENS Star Warrior, a destroyer of the Erewhon Navy. (HHA4.6: TSotS)
