Carlyle was a Manticoran citizen and an officer in the Royal Manticoran Navy.
In 1533 PD, he held the rank of Ensign and was assigned to the destroyer HMS Guardian at the time of the Secour Incident. He was on duty in Guardian's CIC and noticed the EVA incursion of pirates boarding the Havenite battlecruiser RHNS Saintonge. (MA1)
