Belgrand was a Manticoran citizen and an enlisted spacer of the Royal Manticoran Navy.
As a Spacer Third Class, he fought aboard HMS Damocles during the 1543 PD Battle of Manticore. He was injured when the ship's dorsal missile launcher exploded and shrapnel from a destroyed monitor console was embedded in his chest and head.
Back on Manticore, his recovery was partially overseen by Princess Elizabeth Winton-De Quieroz, who less than a year later would become Queen Elizabeth II. (MA3)
