The Triumphant class, a Havenite battleship type
The battleship (BB) was a type of warship considered obsolescent by most Post Diaspora space forces by the start of the First Havenite-Manticoran War.
History[]
Larger than battlecruisers, massing between two and four million tons, the battleship occupied an uneasy space between the better armed and armored dreadnoughts and superdreadnoughts and the faster, cheaper battlecruisers. Ton-for-ton, a larger ship of the wall was more deadly than a battleship due to sturdier construction techniques and higher portional tonnage that could be devoted to weapons. Because of that, few major naval powers built battleships once dreadnoughts and superdreadnoughts became available. However, the People's Republic of Haven maintained battleships as rear area defenses. (HH4)
The Star Kingdom of Manticore built sixteen battleships based on a Solarian design in the 16th Century PD, but after that abandoned the class in favor of dreadnoughts and superdreadnoughts. (Companion)
