Duke of Wellington

The Duke of Wellington
in 1814 CE

Lord Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, (1769 CE – 1852 CE) was an Anglo-Irish soldier and statesman, and one of the leading military and political figures of the 19th Century CE on Earth.

He was perhaps best remembered for defeating the French Emperor Napoleon I in the Battle of Waterloo.

In 1903 PD, Admiral Raoul Courvosier wondered if the quote about the general who makes the last mistake losing was used by Wellington, Rommel, or Tanakov.[1] (HH2)

  1. The admiral seems to refer to "Victory goes to the player who makes the next-to-last mistake", which is a quote attributed to both Charles de Gaulle and Polish-French chess grand master Savielly Tartakower, the latter of whom may also have inspired the proverb "He who makes the last mistake loses" often used by chess players.
