The Ad Astra class was a class of dreadnoughts built and used by the Royal Manticoran Navy.
History[]
Dating from the first half of 17th Century PD, the initial ship of the class massed just under four megatons. Originally intended to be a class of sixteen, construction delays and cost overruns associated with the first four ships, and a fifty year construction hiatus, eventually led to the cancellation of the final five ships. The last ship of this class was commissioned around 1744 PD, and all eleven of them were still in use over a hundred T-years later, though three of them were mothballed and awaiting long overdue repair and refit around 1844 PD.
The first ship was officially retired in 1908 PD, the last in 1913 PD, to free their crew for service aboard Bellerophon-class vessels.
The class was the longest serving single class in the history of the Manticoran Navy. (Companion)
